Band Bio

Neon Crossing is a four piece band from St. John’s Newfoundland. They cross several different musical styles ranging from punchy and rocking to melodic and rootsy with lyrics to give people a place to think about life and the spiritual things that pass us by.

The band was formed from various jam sessions headed up by singer and lead guitarist Todd MacLean. Taking his love of blues, rock and reggae he would inspire those around him with his simple but thought inspiring messages… that and a common desire among most musicians he met, to play as loud as the listening audience could bare.

From jams (hosted out of his local church) and living with various musical room mates he attracted Steve Budden as a rhythym section who digged more lucid grooves inspired by his 2nd life as a DJ and alternative grooves from earlier teenage years. Coincidentally Steve Hammond (Bass) and Jen Taylor (Keyboards) found their way to the church which Todd had regularly attended. Todd immediately appealed to Steve(Hammond)’s desire for deep grooves introducing him to the infectious sides of Reggae. Steve(Hammond) also shared a common interest in rock, funk, and alternative music that Steve Budden had which enabled the band to cross genres and experiment with grooves. Along side Jen Taylor appealed to Todd’s melodic side to put the finishing touches on Todd’s written melodies.

Over the past six years Neon Crossing has enjoyed playing at many local events, festivals and churches. The audiences have been large and small, and the music is for the old and young. Whoever it is, it doesn’t matter as long as Neon Crossing gets a chance to play some loud tunes.

The band originally started out playing covers of popular songs in their own unique style. Eventually this would later lead to experimenting together with original songs written over the years by Todd. The character of the lyrics written for these songs touch on pressing times, being close, never giving up, being simple and maybe something a little deeper…
